HD Advantages

HD is one of the newest technological advances when it comes to make movies. It has allowed people with small budgets to make great movies of pretty high quality. Below we’ve listed as many of the HD advantages that we can think of, hoping to make it easier to choose which format to shoot your movie on:

hd-camera-11. The greatest advantage of HD camera is the quality you can get for a low budget. The quality is far superior to most of the other forms of ‘video’ camera. Please note, that film is always the best quality for your film, inevitably. But if you do not possess the money or drive to use film cameras then opting for an HD camera can be a wise choice.  Small parts of the image will become well defined and can sometimes have some similar outputs to 35mm film, which is inevitably, what you want to achieve when making a movie – That film look that everyone mentions.

2. Using HD will involve far simpler ways to edit in post-production. Editing film is a nightmare, but Hd will often involve sticking a few cables into the back of a computer, press a few buttons and moving the mouse around the screen (okay, it’s a little more that this, but you get the idea).

3. You’re also less likely to find yourself with messed up footage with HD material as it is generally pretty fool-proof. Unlike with film, when more often than anyone would like to happen, film scratches, gets hair in it, dust, creases… The list goes on. You HD stock involves a tape, no cans and long reels, just a tape. So it is pretty safe when transporting around and when recording on to it.

4. Another advantage is that the stock is cheap. Like with most video formats (DV, DigiBeta etc) You will find the stock (the thing you record your movie onto), is far far far… CHEAPER and MORE RELIABLE that 16mm or 35mm film. It is also far easier to get hold of. In fact, nowadays, you will probably find you can walk into your local electronics store and pick up a few DV tapes and HD TAPES primarily, for a fraction of the price. Let’s be honest, if you walked into ‘Comet’ and asked if they had any cans of 35mm film for your ARRI CAMERA then they’d probably laugh at you. HD is the most sensible choice for you low budget movie.

Well hopefully you’ve become aware of the great power that a HD camera can have, make sure you read the disadvantages of the HD camera though (there is a link in the related posts section). Sorry if we’ve confused you.

You can discuss particular cameras in the comment section below or in the forum, so if you want to know the advatages and disadvatanges of a particular camera, then just ask.
